A complete beginner to cake decorating?

Updated: Aug 2, 2020

So, we’ve introduced a new class recently, which is always exciting. We often find that people come along to our cupcake classes but are too scared to then take the leap to the next level and try a big cake.

So we came up with the idea of our brilliant Big Cake Basics Class, which is aimed at complete and utter beginners to cake decorating. Anybody that hasn’t picked up a rolling pin, or covered a cake before, or done any decorations whatsoever is a perfect student for this one! Perhaps you’re a mum that would love to make her children’s birthday cakes instead of having to buy them, or you can bake perfect cakes but don’t have a clue where to start with decorating them, or you’d love to try decorating something more than cupcakes……….then this is the class for you.

This is one of Jenni’s classes, and anybody that has been to one of her classes before knows that she’s super patient and very helpful. So you’ll be in good hands. She also makes the delicious chocolate ganache that we use to crumb coat the cakes, and will help with the recipe and method for that too.  And she’s ace for sharing her tips and tricks for a great cake, including how to avoid common mistakes and pitfalls.

The decorations for this cake are fairly simple, but can be adapted for all sorts of occasions.  You’ll learn how to use various plunger cutters, how to make a message plaque, how to use letter cutters, and how to use metallic paints for a bit of bling.

The colour scheme choice is completely up to you, and you can write whatever message you like on the cake too. So this is a class to do the day before a special occasion, so you can take the cake away with you for it (although don’t worry if your special occasion is in the future………the cake can be frozen too!).

And even better, you don’t need to bring any equipment, it’s all supplied for you, right down to the freshly baked vanilla sponge, and an apron so you don’t get too mucky (although no promises…….it is chocolate ganache after all). So what are you waiting for?  Book your place on our website today.  And if you want to see more photos of cakes from our classes, do take a look at our Facebook page, where there are lots for you to see. Hope to see you at a class soon.

Happy baking and caking everyone,

Lucy. x
