  • Where are you located?
We are in the beautiful county of Berkshire, in the UK. It's an ideal location for our students coming from further afield, as we are within 15 minutes of the M3 and M4 motorways, and within half a hour of Heathrow airport. You can see a map and more information on our Contact Us page.
  • How many people are in each class?
It depends on the class, most classes are for a maximum of 6 or 8 people.
  • I'm a complete beginner, which class is best for me?
Most of our classes are suitable for complete beginners, so if you've never made buttercream or picked up a palette knife before then don't worry! If a class is ideally suited to students with a little more experience, then it will say so in the class description.
  • How long has The Cake College been running for?
The Cake College was set up in 2014 so we've got many years of experience in running classes. Since then, we've had tons of 5* reviews (to read them, please head to our Facebook page or find our Google listing) and many returning students that come back time and time again.
  • I have a specific skill I want to learn, which class is best for me?
You can see full details of all our classes here, they are divided in to categories. Please click on the category you are interested in and then each individual class page to find the full description of what the class will cover. We cover most cake decorating skills/techniques, but if you don't see a class that covers what you'd like to learn, please contact us to discuss.
  • Can you provide gluten free/vegan cakes?
Yes, for any class where we provide the cakes ready to decorate, we can accommodate most dietary requirements with a little bit of notice. For any class where students bake the cake(s), we can provide gluten free or dairy free ingredients, but not vegan. Please note that the classroom isn't gluten or dairy free, there will be cross contamination as we use regular flour and dairy products for the majority of students. Please contact us in advance of booking if you wish to book with any dietary requirement so that we can check the date for you and confirm that it will be possible. All of our classes are vegetarian and alcohol free.
  • What price are your classes?
They vary in price, between £75 and £595, depending on the class content and duration. The price includes all your supplies, equipment, use of an apron and drinks throughout the day. You can see the price for each class on the relevant page. Occasionally, we will offer reduced class spaces at the last minute, and these are always advertised on our Facebook or Instagram pages.
  • Can I pay for my class in instalments?
Yes, absolutely. All of our classes can be paid for in instalments, please contact us to arrange this.
  • Do you have parking?
Yes, we have off street parking for a class full of cars.
  • Do you have an EV charger?
Yes, we have a 7.4kw tethered type 2 charger, suitable for most electric vehicles. This is our home car charger, but we are happy to let students use it as long as we have a bit of notice, so if you wish to charge your car whilst at a class, please contact us to arrange this.
  • Are you near public transport?
One of the reasons The Cake College is so special is the setting, it's a gorgeous oak framed building in the ground of a Grade II* listed Georgian farmhouse. And of course, being a farmhouse means that we are only surrounded by fields and in a rather rural location, that isn't on a bus route. We are close to Reading and Wokingham train stations, and a taxi can bring you the rest of the way.
  • Do you have facilities for students with a disability?
Yes, we have a ramp for those in wheelchairs to access the building, and an accessible toilet as well with a wider door, handrails and emergency pull cord. We can also arrange for parking as close to the entrance door as possible, please contact us ahead of your class if you require this so we can reserve you the space. Please be aware that we do have gravel between the car parking area and the door, and that our worktops unfortunately cannot be lowered.
  • Do students bake the cakes in every class?
No, some of our classes are more focused on the decorating side of things, and for this we provide ready made cakes due to timing. Each class description will tell you if you will be baking the cake(s) as part of the class, or if they will be provided for you.
  • Do I need to bring anything to a class?
The only thing you need to bring is your lunch if you are coming for a full day's class. Everything else is provided for you, including all drinks, equipment, ingredients, boxes to take your cakes/bakes home in, and an apron.
  • Can you provide private tuition?
We cannot provide one on one tuition, but can occasionally provide private classes for groups (minimum 6 people), please contact us to enquire about this.
  • Do you have a minimum age requirement for your classes?
We'd recommend a minimum age of 10 for our classes. It's really up to parents to decide if their child would be happy decorating cakes for a whole day - after all, you know them best! Our cupcake classes are a good place to start, and we'll often have teenagers on those classes. If you have another class in mind for your child/teen, please contact us before booking to check it will be suitable. All of our staff are DBS checked.
  • Do you have any job vacancies?
Occasionally we do. If you would like to be considered for any roles we may have available in the future, please contact us with your CV and we can keep your details on file.
  • What are your Terms and Conditions?
You can see our T's and C's on the bottom of each page of the website, they are also shown during the checkout process.
