Frequently Asked Questions
The Cake College is in the process of an exciting move to a new teaching kitchen. If you have booked a class before August 2026, then you will be coming to visit us in our current home in Arborfield. If you have booked a class for September 2026 onwards, you'll be joining us in our new space!
The address is:
The Flour Barn
Frilsham Home Farm
Yattendon
RG18 0XT
Our classes are small, so that you can have your own work space and we can give you our undivided attention! Classes are 6-8 people, depending on the class.
Most of our classes are suitable for complete beginners, so if you've never made buttercream or picked up a palette knife before then don't worry! If a class is ideally suited to students with a little more experience, then it will say so in the class description.
You can see full details of all our classes here, they are divided in to categories. Please click on the category you are interested in and then each individual class page to find the full description of what the class will cover. We cover most cake decorating skills/techniques, but if you don't see a class that covers what you'd like to learn, please contact us to discuss.
The only thing you need to bring is your lunch if you are coming for a full day's class. Everything else is provided for you, including all drinks, equipment, ingredients, boxes to take your cakes/bakes home in, and an apron.
For any class where we provide the cakes ready to decorate, we can accommodate most dietary requirements with a little bit of notice, including gluten free/vegan. For any class where students bake the cake(s), we can provide gluten free or dairy free ingredients, but are unfortunately unable to accommodate vegan/egg free baking. Please note that the classroom isn't gluten or dairy free, there will be cross contamination as we use regular flour and dairy products for the majority of students.
Please contact us in advance of booking if you wish to book with any dietary requirement so that we can check the date for you and confirm that it will be possible.
They vary in price, depending on the class content and duration. The price includes all your supplies, equipment, use of an apron and drinks throughout the day. You can see the price for each class on the relevant page.
Single day classes must be paid for in full at the time of booking. Our multi day classes can be paid for in instalments, please contact us to arrange this.

Yes, if a class is fully booked we do run a waiting list and occasionally a place will become available due to a cancellation. Please either sign up via the 'Join Waitlist' button on the website (you must be signed in to do this) or contact us to be added manually.
Yes, we have a ramp for those in wheelchairs to access the building, and an accessible toilet. We can also arrange for parking immediately at the entrance door. Please contact us ahead of your class if you require this so we can reserve you the space. Please be aware that our worktops unfortunately cannot be lowered.
No. Most of our classes you will bake your cake(s), but some of our classes are more focused on the decorating side of things, and for this we provide ready made cakes due to timing. We also have some specific decorating technique classes that do not include a cake at all. Each class description will tell you if you will be baking or not as part of the class.
We run limited classes at the weekend - do take a look at our class pages to find out which are run on Saturdays. School holiday classes are family baking workshops only.
We cannot provide one on one tuition, but can occasionally provide private classes for groups (minimum 6 people), please contact us to enquire about this.
We'd recommend a minimum age of 10 for our adult classes. It's really up to parents to decide if their child would be happy decorating cakes for a whole day - after all, you know them best! We also run seasonal family baking days in the school holidays. If you have another class in mind for your child/teen, please contact us before booking to check it will be suitable.
Occasionally we do. If you would like to be considered for any roles we may have available in the future, please contact us with your CV and we can keep your details on file.
You can see our T's and C's on the bottom of each page of the website, they are also shown during the checkout process.
