Frequently asked questions
Where are you located?
We are in the beautiful county of Berkshire, England. It's an ideal location for our students coming from further afield, as we are within 15 minutes of the M3 and M4 motorways, and within half a hour of Heathrow airport. You can see a map and more infomation on our Contact Us page.
How many people are in each class?
It depends on the class, class numbers range between 6 and 10 depending on various factors.
How long has The Cake College been running for?
The Cake College was set up in 2014 so we've got many years of experience in running classes, and all of our reviews over the past 7 years have been 5* (to read them, please head to our Facebook page).
Do you have an age limit for your classes?
No, any age is welcome and it's really up to parents to decide if their child would be happy decorating cakes for a whole day - after all, you know them best! Our cupcake classes are a good place to start, and we'll often have teenagers on those classes. For younger children, we offer shorter Children's Cupcake Classes in the holidays and at weekends. All of our staff are DBS checked.
Do you have facilities for students with a disability?
Yes, we have a ramp for those in wheelchairs to access the building, and an accessible toilet as well with a wider door, handrails and emergency pull cord. We can also arrange for parking as close to the entrance door as possible, please contact us ahead of your class to arrange this. Please be aware that we do have gravel between the car parking area and the door.
Do you have parking?
Yes, we have off street parking for 10-12 cars.
Do you have a car charger?
Yes, we have a charger. If you wish to charge your car whilst at a class for the return journey, please contact us to arrange this so we can reserve the space for you. Please note that the car charger is available on a first come, first served basis, but can usually be shared between students if needed.
I'm coming from abroad or further afield, do you have accommodation you can recommend?
We can help with hotel or bed and breakfast recommendations, please contact us to arrange this.
I have a specific skill I want to learn, which class is best for me?
You can see full details of all our classes here, they are divided in to categories. Please click on the category you are interested in and then each individual class page to find the full description of what the class will cover. We cover most cake decorating skills/techniques, but if you don't see a class that covers what you'd like to learn, please contact us to discuss.
I'm a complete beginner, which class is best for me?
Most of our classes are suitable for complete beginners, so if you've never made buttercream or picked up a palette knife before then don't worry! If a class is ideally suited to students with a little more experience, then it will say so in the class description.
Are you near public transport?
One of the reasons The Cake College is so special is the setting, it's a gorgeous oak framed building in the ground of a Grade II* listed Georgian farmhouse. And of course, being a farmhouse means that we are only surrounded by fields and in a rather rural location, that isn't on a bus route. We are close to Reading and Wokingham train stations, and a taxi can bring you the rest of the way.
Do you have any job vacancies?
Occasionally we do. If you would like to be considered for any roles we may have available in the future, please contact us with your CV and we can keep your details on file.
What price are your classes?
They vary in price, between £45 and £450, depending on the class content and duration. The price includes your supplies, equipment, use of an apron and drinks throughout the day. You can see the price for each class on the relevant page.
Can you provide gluten free/vegan cakes?
Yes, for our classes when we provide cakes ready to decorate, we can accommodate most dietary requirements with a bit of notice. Please contact us in advance of booking if you will require a gluten free or vegan cake so that we can check the date for you and get that arranged.
Do students bake the cakes in every class?
No, some of our classes are more focused on the decorating side of things, and for this we provide ready made cakes due to timing. Each class description will tell you if you will be baking the cake(s) as part of the class, or if they will be provided for you.
